For the fourth time in the first nine months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments totaled fewer than 25,000 RVs.
RVIA’s September 2023 survey of manufacturers found wholesale RV shipments totaled 24,700. From 2016-2022, RVIA reported only three months in which wholesale RV shipments totaled fewer than 25,000.
The first was April 2020, during pandemic shutdowns, when 7,197 RVs shipped. The other two were November 2022 (24,445) and December 2022 (19,907).
September 2023’s total is a decrease of 12.9% compared with September 2022 and is down 13.9% from the 28,701 wholesale RV shipments in August.
RVIA President and CEO Craig Kirby said, “With milder weather, spectacular fall landscapes, and family-friendly activities at campgrounds, 38 million Americans are choosing RVing as their vacation of choice this fall. RV manufacturers and suppliers continue to innovate and release new features and products for today’s RVers who are looking to spend time with friends and family while also enjoying the many physical and mental health benefits of living an active outdoor lifestyle.”
Towable RVs totaled 21,385 wholesale shipments, down 7.6% from September 2022.
Motorized RVs totaled 3,315 wholesale shipments, down 36.6% from September 2022.
Through the first nine months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments are down 42.8% from the first nine months of 2022.
