Wyoming will receive $6 million every two years to fund outdoor recreation infrastructure, planning and access.
On March 7, Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon signed the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Administration bill into law. The law enacts the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Trust Fund, unlocking the outdoor recreation funding.
Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) Vice President of Programs Chris Perkins said, “Gov. Gordon and the state legislature are showing forward-thinking leadership to position the state for economic resilience into the future through outdoor recreation’s economic, community and health benefits.”
The legislation was passed into law in 2023. At the time, the law created the fund and funding mechanism. The bill Gov. Gordon signed March 8 crafts the governance structure sending funding to communities. The action also set an investment fundraising, or corpus, goal of $200 million.
Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation State Director Patrick Harrington said, “This legislation is a testament to what can happen when a diverse group of public supporters define a common goal and work together to achieve it.”
